Our sophomore year working with this esteemed vineyard owned by the Pisoni family crafted yet another prodigious and compelling wine. Dark ruby to the core, this wine has a touch of vibrancy and a terrific bouquet of crème de cassis. Shiitake mushroom, forest floor and freshly crushed rocks envelope the senses. True to its AVA, it offers up a sensational array of blackberries, blueberries and violets on its full-bodied mid palate. Concentrated yet surprisingly slightly firm and tight, the mid palate and finish are focused with beautiful fruit, plenty of texture and a great length. 2-3 years of cellaring will bring out some secondary nuances, aging well for 4-8 years.
Located 700 feet above our Gap’s Crown vineyard on Sonoma Mountain allows this vineyard to capture more sunlight and heat being above the fog line. This translates into a pure fruit driven wine. Slightly more vibrant in color than our other wines, its light crimson color is an entry into aromas of dark cherries, earth and graphite. Sweet red cherry, plum, spice and hints of lavender flowers meld together in a forward, juicy wine with terrific mid-palate of pliancy and depth. Dark spices are laced into the supple, open-knit finish that seems to flow effortlessly for 30 seconds. While this wine seems ready to drink, a year of bottle age will unveil hidden layers. Age it for another 4-6 years for further integration and complexities.
What a vintage 2014 was for the Gap’s Crown vineyard. Perfect growing conditions coupled with zero weather related pressure allowed us to harvest and produce another elegant but robust Pinot Noir this vineyard is known for. Dark crimson hues are combined with an effusive nose of red and dark fruits intermingled with exotic spices and slight Garrigue notes. The palate is full bodied and has great density which showcases an amazing core of pure Pinot Noir fruit. Framed by subtle but firm tannins, this wine is drinking wonderfully right out the gate. A year or two in the cellar will bring out further complexities and look for it to age well for 4-7 years.
